Is Chime an online bank?

Chime is not a bank, but a financial technology company. We partner with The Bancorp Bank, N.A. and Stride Bank, N.A., Members FDIC, which are both FDIC-insured.

How do you open an account online through Chime?

Apply in minutes on chime.com or download the Chime mobile app (Google Play or Apple App Store).

You must be at least 18 years old, and you’ll need your Social Security number, email address, and a valid U.S. address.

Set Up Banking


Once approved, you can connect your existing bank account to transfer funds or set up direct deposit. You can access your account anytime via the mobile app or at chime.com.

Receive Your Virtual Debit Card


After enrollment, you can add your virtual debit card to your wallet. If you would like a physical card, you can request one in the app.

Chime has access to more than 47,000 fee-free ATMs2 nationwide at stores like Walgreens®, 7-Eleven®, CVS Pharmacy®, and Circle K. You can find Chime ATMs in the app or with the ATM Finder on Chime’s website.

Does Chime require a credit check to open an account online?

Chime does not require a credit check to open an online account. We provide services that are inclusive of all Americans. This includes those who struggle with bad credit history but are still looking for checking or savings accounts they can open and use entirely online with no opening deposit required.

What banks partner with Chime?

Chime is a financial technology company that offers banking services through two banking partners: The Bancorp Bank, N.A. and Stride Bank, N.A., Members FDIC. Because Chime partners with these banks, your funds are FDIC-insured through The Bancorp Bank, N.A., or Stride Bank, N.A.§

How do I deposit money into my Chime account?

When you sign up for Chime, you can easily move money into your account online. Just link an external bank account to set up a transfer. To continue to get money in your Chime account, set up direct deposit from your employer or payroll provider.



You can deposit cash15 into your Chime Account at over 100,000 retail locations with our cash deposit partners. The retailer that receives your cash will be responsible to transfer the funds for deposit into your Chime Account.

Where can I go to add money to my Chime debit card?

You can add money to your Chime Checking Account by making a fee-free cash deposit at any Walgreens location nationwide. And it’s not just Walgreens – for a fee, you can deposit cash into your Chime account at more than 85,000 retailers across the country.

You can also fund your debit card with direct deposit, mobile check deposit,16 instant transfers,17 and bank transfers, all in the mobile app.

Round Ups automatically round up debit card and credit card purchases to the nearest dollar and transfers the round up from your Chime Checking Account into your savings account. You can also automatically transfer part of your direct deposits of $1 or more from your Checking Account into your selected Chime account(s).

Some restrictions apply. To be eligible for MyPay®, you must receive qualifying direct deposits to your Chime Checking Account in the preceding 36 days as set forth in the MyPay Agreement. A Qualifying Direct Deposit is a deposit from an employer, payroll provider, gig economy payer, government benefits payer, or other permitted source of income by Automated Clearing House (“ACH”) or Original Credit Transaction (“OCT”). Your MyPay Credit Limit and Maximum Available Advance may change at any time. MyPay is a line of credit and available limits are based on estimated income and risk-based criteria. Eligible members may be offered a $20 - $500 Credit Limit per pay period. Limits may be impacted by your use of other Chime products. Your Credit Limit and Maximum Available Advance will be displayed to you within the Chime app. MyPay is currently only available to eligible Chime members in certain states. Early access to direct deposit funds depends on the timing of the submission of the payment file from the payer. We generally make these funds available on the day the payment file is received, which may be up to 2 days earlier than the scheduled payment date.

On-time payment history may have a positive impact on your credit score. Late payment may negatively impact your credit score. Chime will report your activities to Transunion®, Experian®, and Equifax®. Impact on your credit may vary, as credit scores are independently determined by credit bureaus based on a number of factors including the financial decisions you make with other financial services organizations.

Once the retailer accepts your cash, the funds will be transferred to your Chime account. You may use your barcode, debit card, or Chime Card to deposit cash. Cash deposit fees may apply if using a retailer other than Walgreens and Duane Reade. Cash deposits using a barcode or debit card are deposited to your Checking Account. If you have the Chime Card, those funds will be automatically swept to your Chime Card Secured Deposit Account. Cash deposits using your Chime Card first go to your Chime Card Account, then transferred to your Chime Card Secured Deposit Account. Cash deposits are not payment for any Chime Card balance due.

Mobile Check Deposit eligibility is determined by Chime in its sole discretion and may be granted based on various factors including, but not limited to, a member's direct deposit enrollment status.
