Hi, I think your account got treated as a “new paid signup” after your previous subscription expired. Sadly, GitHub currently paused new Copilot paid subscriptions, even for some old users trying to resubscribe. You should contact GitHub Support directly because this looks account-specific. Since you were already a long-term Copilot user, they may be able to manually review or restore your upgrade access. |

This looks like an unfortunate edge case in the current Copilot signup pause. GitHub's current docs say that starting April 20, 2026, new sign-ups for Copilot Pro, Copilot Pro+, and student plans are temporarily paused. The same docs also say existing Copilot plans can still be upgraded, downgraded, or canceled. Docs: https://docs.github.com/en/copilot/how-tos/manage-your-account/view-and-change-your-copilot-plan The important detail in your case is that your previous paid subscription already ended. Once it ended and your account dropped back to Copilot Free, the billing system may now treat you as a new paid signup rather than as an existing paid subscriber upgrading/downgrading. So I would not keep trying random purchase paths. I would do this instead:
A short support message could be: Community users cannot manually restore the button, but based on the docs this is exactly the kind of account-specific billing state GitHub Support needs to check. |

Hi, Thank you for reaching out, and we understand your concern. Based on the information provided, it appears that your previous Copilot subscription expired successfully, but your account is currently only eligible for the Copilot Free plan. This may be related to ongoing changes in Copilot subscription availability or a temporary account-side billing/subscription issue. Since you are an existing long-term Copilot user, you should normally still be able to resubscribe or upgrade if the service is available in your region and account status. Here are a few things we recommend checking:
If the subscribe or upgrade button is still missing, this issue will likely need to be reviewed directly by GitHub Support, as it may be related to account eligibility or a backend subscription restriction. We recommend opening a GitHub Support ticket here: Please include:
Hopefully the GitHub staff can restore access to Copilot Pro/Pro+ for your account soon. Thank you. |
