Hi everyone,

Same issues as everyone else by the looks of it - signed up using my work email, it even says that the email is associated with my school. On my mac, it won't let me upload files, it's turning on my camera and wanting me to take a photo, of which i am trying to show a photo of my current employment contract. Instant email showing a rejection for the education account. Why?

Not having an email to respond to is frustrating. Especially as it seems to be a huge issue for multiple account holders.

From what you described, it sounds like you’re trying to verify for the student/education benefits on GitHub, but the system is pushing you into camera-based verification instead of letting you upload a document and then rejecting it instantly. Hey, I think there are a couple of different things going on here.

First, just having a work email—even if it’s linked to a school—doesn’t automatically make you eligible for the GitHub Student Developer Pack. They usually need proof that you’re actually a student. If you’re uploading an employment contract, that might be why it’s getting rejected instantly—it doesn’t show student enrollment.
About the upload issue on your Mac: the camera-only thing is often a browser problem (Safari is known for this). Try switching to Chrome or Firefox, or even uploading from your phone. That usually fixes it.
The instant rejection email is also pretty common. It usually means the system automatically flagged the document as not valid (wrong type, unclear, or not matching their requirements).
If you reapply, try uploading something like:

Student ID
Enrollment letter
Fee receipt
Class timetable with your name

Make sure your name and institution are clearly visible and that the document is current.
And yeah, the lack of a response email is frustrating—you’re definitely not the only one facing that. Most people just end up reapplying with the correct documents or switching devices and it works.

This isn’t random — the system is rejecting you for a reason.

Most likely causes:

• Work email ≠ proof of eligibility (it checks domain + status, not just email)
• Employment contract photo via camera → often unreadable / not accepted
• Document type not supported (they usually expect student/faculty ID or official proof)

What to do:

• Use a clear upload (not camera)
• Submit a valid ID (student/faculty card or official letter with name + institution)
• Make sure your account name exactly matches the document

Reality:

The system is strict and automated. If it can’t clearly verify you in seconds, it rejects — no explanation.

Fix the input, not the system.

This looks like two separate issues — eligibility and upload method.

A work email alone isn’t enough for approval. The system still needs valid proof (student ID, enrollment letter, etc.), so an employment contract will get rejected automatically.

The camera-only upload on Mac is usually a browser issue (common with Safari). Try Chrome/Firefox or uploading from your phone to use file upload instead.
The instant rejection happens because the process is automated — if the document type or clarity doesn’t match requirements, it fails immediately.

What to do:

• Upload a clear file (not camera)
• Use valid academic proof
• Make sure your name matches your account
  The system is strict, not broken — fixing the input usually resolves it.

Same problem here. I put my institutional school email and a signed letter from the school director confirming my teaching role.

I just tried again, but this time with a picture of my faculty ID (which has no dates on it) and it seems to have gone through .. seems quite random. So my advise would be to keep trying...

I had a similar experience. The automated verification rejected my application immediately before I could upload any documents. It might be an issue with the verification system rather than your eligibility. Trying a different browser, clearing cache, or waiting a day before reapplying may help. Hopefully, the GitHub Education team can review your case manually. Good luck!

Thanks .. I tried with a different set of documents and it took those (at least I didn't get a rejection) so I guess I wait until the 72 hours processing time for activation is up to know for sure.
