FAQ

What Happened to PySimpleGUI 5?

The commercial effort ended in early 2026. We released a final version to commercial customers, removing licensing and security features so they could run their code with minimal regression testing.

The private PyPI server and maintenance release servers have been shut down.

What is PySimpleGUI 6?

PySimpleGUI 6 is the LGPL3 open source version based on the PySimpleGUI 5 codebase. All new features and fixes from version 5 are now on GitHub and PyPI.

Version 5's SDK documentation has been adapted for version 6. It made sense to release the code publicly rather than let it sit unused.

What is the Future of PySimpleGUI?

I'm not sure yet. For now, we're releasing it fully and updating docs to match version 6, including fixes for Trinket shutting down in August 2026.

I suck at predicting the future. PySimpleGUI started as throwaway code.

How Did Commercialization Go?

Building a product with a great team was rewarding. Commercial users wanted us to succeed.

Sustainable revenue was the problem—barely enough to cover servers and costs. Python libraries seem nearly impossible to fund commercially. Users love free software, but sponsorships don't sustain big projects either.

I'd do it again. We had great experiences and worked with talented people. Financial success wasn't everything—sometimes the journey matters more.
