Transit is your ticket to getting around more quickly and easily without a car. Whether you’re commuting or travelling, it provides the most convenient, up-to-the-second public transport options in nearly 1,000 cities around the world.
What we love: The location-precise real-time data. You’ll see exactly how many minutes you have to wait for the next bus or train, then get updated on the remaining stops and the estimated time until you arrive. Walking directions guide you to and between train, bus and boat (yes, boat!) stations and then onto your destination. You can even choose to include your bike (the app can suggest combining transit trips that allow bikes onboard, and guide you to the safest cycling paths) or compare transit times with ride-share options, then request a car directly in the app.

Quick tip: Going underground? Transit intelligently uses your device’s motion sensors to track stops and your ETA even when you don’t have mobile service or GPS.
Meet the creator: Created in Montreal by Sam Vermette and Guillaume Campagna, Transit was launched in 2012 with the goal of making public transport easier to navigate. The developer released a manifesto called Life Beyond Cars which talks about transforming our lives and communities through changing our transportation habits: “When there are fewer cars, your city becomes a better place: one that’s greener, more vibrant and more joyful.”
