Influence of donor–recipient sex mismatch on long-term survival of pancreatic grafts
2016
Scientific Reports
To assess the role of sex mismatch on graft survival after pancreas transplantation. We evaluated 24,195 pancreas-transplant recipients reported in the Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients over a 25-year period. Pancreatic graft survival (PGS) was analyzed according to donor-recipient sex pairing using Kaplan-Meier estimations. Hazard ratios were estimated using Cox proportional hazard models. A total of 14,187 male and 10,008 female recipients were included in final analyses. Mean

... w-up was 8.3 ± 5.7 years. In multivariate analyses, neither recipient sex nor donor sex was associated with pancreatic graft failure (PGF), but donor-recipient sex mismatch (regardless of recipient sex) was an independent predictor of PGS (HR, 1.09; 95% CI, 1.04-1.14; p < 0.001). Compared with M → M sexmatched recipients in univariate analyses, M → F and F → M sex mismatches were associated with an increased risk of PGF. Adjustment for significant recipient and donor factors eliminated the association between F → M sex mismatch and PGF (HR, 1.02; 95% CI, 0.93-1.10; p = 0.752), but not M → F (1.09; 1.02-1.17; 0.020). Stratified analyses suggested that the negative effect of donor-recipient sex mismatch could be neutralized in older patients. These findings suggest that donor-recipient sex pairing should be taken into consideration in organ-allocation strategies. Sex plays an important part in the outcomes of individuals receiving solid-organ transplants 1-5 . In liver-transplant recipients, female recipients and donors have been found to be associated with an increased prevalence of death and graft failure 4 . More recent studies have highlighted the importance of donor-recipient sex pairing in organ transplantation. Several reports on liver transplantation have shown that recipients with sex-mismatched donors have an increased risk of graft failure compared with those with sex-matched donors 6-9 . In heart-transplant recipients, donor-recipient sex mismatch also increases the risk of death (mainly during the first month) and in patients with pulmonary gradient >13 mmHg 10 . Kaufman and colleagues found that female donors were associated with graft loss after pancreas transplantation, and that donor sex was integrated into the formula for the Pancreas Donor Risk Index (PDRI) 11 . A study from Norway confirmed recipient sex not to be associated with pancreatic graft survival (PGS) or patient survival 12 . However, all of these reports looked only at the impact of donor sex or recipient sex. Also, the results of studies analyzing the influence of associations between donor sex and recipient sex on PGS in small-sample cohorts or in single-center studies have been contradictory [13] [14] [15] [16] [17] . We hypothesized that the types of donor-recipient sex matching are relevant in predicting outcomes of pancreatic grafts. Accordingly, using a large national registry database, we sought to clarify and quantify the influence of donor-recipient sex pairing on the outcomes of pancreas transplantation.
A Novel Field-Free SOT Magnetic Tunnel Junction With Local VCMA-Induced Switching

By integrating the local voltage-controlled magnetic anisotropy (VCMA) effect, Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) effect, and spin-orbit torque (SOT) effect, we propose a novel device structure for field-free magnetic tunnel junction (MTJ). Micromagnetic simulation shows that the device utilizes the chiral symmetry breaking caused by the DMI effect to induce a non-collinear spin texture under the influence of SOT current. This, combined with the perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA)

... and safety so that they can assist humans to complete highly repetitive and high-precision work. In order to maintain robot safe operation in the increasing complex working environment and human–computer intelligent interactive control, this paper is concerned with the problem of applicant accuracy analysis and singularity avoidance for co-bots. Based on the dynamic model with load and torque sensors, which is used to detect the external force at the end of the robot, this paper systematically analyzes the causes of singularity phenomenon in the robot motion control. The inverse solution is obtained by analytical method and numerical method, respectively. In order to ensure the smooth and safe operation in the whole workspace, it is necessary for a robot to avoid singularity. Singularity avoidance schemes are utilized for different control tasks, including point-to-point control and continuous path control. Corresponding simulation experiments are designed to verify the effectiveness of different evasion schemes, in which the advantages and disadvantages are compared and analyzed.

Capsid modification of adeno-associated virus and tumor targeting gene therapy
2008
Science Bulletin
Targeting is critical for successful tumor gene therapy. The adeno-associated virus (AAV) has aroused wide concern due to its excellent advantages over other viral vectors in gene therapy. AAV has a broad infection spectrum, which also results in poor specificity towards tissues or cells and low transduction efficiency. Therefore, it is imperative to improve target and transduction efficiency in AAV-mediated gene therapy. Up to now, researchers have developed many strategies to modify AAV

A Novel Microgrid Islanding Detection Algorithm Based on a Multi-Feature Improved LSTM
2022
Energies
Islanding detection is one of the conditions necessary for the safe operation of the microgrid. The detection technology should provide the ability to differentiate islanded operations from power grid disturbances effectively. Given that it is difficult to set the fault threshold using the passive detection method, and because the traditional active detection method affects the output power quality, a microgrid islanding detection method based on the Sliding Window Discrete Fourier Transform

... FT)-Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) network optimized by an attention mechanism is proposed. In this paper, the inverter output current and voltage at the point of common coupling (PCC) are transformed by the SDFT. The positive sequence, zero sequence, and negative sequence components of voltage and current harmonics are calculated and reconstructed by adopting the symmetrical component method (SCM). Meanwhile, the current and voltage are decomposed into a mono intrinsic mode function (IMF). The symmetric components of voltage, current, and IMFs are used as inputs to the deep learning algorithm. An LSTM with the features extracted to classify islanding and grid disturbance is proposed. By using the attention mechanism to set the weight values of the features of hidden states obtained by the LSTM network, the proportion of important features increases, which improves the classification effect. MATLAB/Simulink simulation results indicate that the proposed method can effectively classify the islanding state under different working conditions with an accuracy level of 98.4% and a loss value of 0.0725 with a maximal detection time of 66.94 ms. It can also reduce the non-detection zone (NDZ) and detection time and has a certain level of noise resistance. Meanwhile, the problem whereby the active method affects the microgrid power quality is avoided without disturbing the current or power of the microgrid.

2015
BMJ Open
Objectives: Salvage liver transplantation (SLT) is a controversial technique that has been reported to be acceptable for the management of patients with recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after primary hepatic resection (HR). However, whether the number of times liver resection is performed has an impact on survival after SLT has not yet been reported. Design: Retrospective study. Setting: The level of care is primary and the study was carried out at only 1 centre. Participants: The study

... included 59 patients who underwent SLT for HCC from September 2001 to December 2012. 51 patients underwent HR only once before SLT, while the remaining 8 patients underwent HR more than once before SLT (HR=2 [7], HR=3, [1]). Primary and secondary outcome measures: In this study, the 1-year, 3-year and 5-year overall and tumour-free survival outcomes between the 2 groups were compared. Results: There were no significant differences between patients who underwent HR once and those who underwent HR more than once with respect to overall or tumour-free survival after receiving SLT. The 1-year, 3-year and 5-year overall survival rates for patients who underwent HR once were 72.9%, 35.3% and 35.5% vs 50%, 50% and 50%, respectively ( p=0.986), while the 1-year, 3-year and 5-year tumourfree survival rates for those who underwent HR more than once were 66.3%, 55.3% and 44.4% vs 40%, 40% and 40%, respectively ( p=0.790). Conclusions: There was no significant difference in the survival rate of patients who underwent HR once before SLT and those who underwent HR more than once. This suggests that SLT is a reasonable choice for patients who suffer from recurrent HCC after HR. Trial registration number: This is a retrospective study and no registry or number is required.
