The wiki way of learning

Alison Ruth, Luke Houghton
2009 Australasian Journal of Educational Technology
This paper presents the argument that the use of wikis in a learning environment involves a different way of thinking, learning and knowing than perhaps many practitioners are familiar with. In particular, wikis foster collaborative, egalitarian learning that is designed to foster group interaction instead of just individual performance. Moreover, wiki based learning involves community ideals and challenging modes of interaction for both learners and instructors. The paper begins by summarising

It presents a recent study conducted in a classroom environment into how students conceptualised wiki use and uses a case study of a course in mobile workforce technologies to present the basis for a wiki pedagogy. The paper concludes with a discussion on the both the practical and theoretical implications of using wikis in a tertiary education environment.

Optimizing Engineering Project Governance for Sustainability

David Tuffley, Yuk Kuen Wong, Luke Houghton
2011 Advanced Materials Research
Organisations are increasingly leveraging improved decision making processes during the establishment of project teams. Beyond the obvious advantages of accessing qualified, cost-effective project staff, the issues of sustainability and governance are addressed when the virtual teaming approach is used. Projects can proceed without people needing to travel to a co-located work-place, thus saving time, effort and expense while creating less environmental pollution. But there is a governance

What is needed are effective, practical methods for managing virtual projects. This paper introduces a new Reference Model of Organisational Behavior (RMOB) for the Leadership of Complex Virtual Teams which is arguably an effective way to meet the challenges of virtual teaming. This paper also discusses the new issue of sustainable leadership with mention of the proposed Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Management indicators that point towards sustainable governance.

RFID Adaption in Healthcare Organizations: An Integrative Framework

Ahed Abugabah, Louis Sanzogni, Luke Houghton, Ahmad Ali AlZubi, Alaa Abuqabbeh
2022 Computers Materials & Continua
Radio frequency identification (RFID), also known as electronic label technology, is a non-contact automated identification technology that recognizes the target object and extracts relevant data and critical characteristics using radio frequency signals. Medical equipment information management is an important part of the construction of a modern hospital, as it is linked to the degree of diagnosis and care, as well as the hospital's benefits and growth. The aim of this study is to create an
more » ... tegrated view of a theoretical framework to identify factors that influence RFID adoption in healthcare, as well as to conduct an empirical review of the impact of organizational, environmental, and individual factors on RFID adoption in the healthcare industry. In contrast to previous research, the current study focuses on individual factors as well as organizational and technological factors in order to better understand the phenomenon of RFID adoption in healthcare, which is characterized as a dynamic and challenging work environment. This research fills a gap in the current literature by describing how user factors can influence RFID adoption in healthcare and how such factors can lead to a deeper understanding of the advantages, uses, and impacts of RFID in healthcare. The proposed study has superior performance and effective results.

Thetrans-Golgi network GRIP-domain proteins form α-helical homodimers

Michael R. LUKE, Fiona HOUGHTON, Matthew A. PERUGINI, Paul A. GLEESON
2005 Biochemical Journal
A recently described family of TGN (trans-Golgi network) proteins, all of which contain a GRIP domain targeting sequence, has been proposed to play a role in membrane transport. On the basis of the high content of heptad repeats, GRIP domain proteins are predicted to contain extensive coiled-coil regions that have the potential to mediate protein-protein interactions. Four mammalian GRIP domain proteins have been identified which are targeted to the TGN through their GRIP domains, namely p230,
more » ... olgin-97, GCC88 and GCC185. In the present study, we have investigated the ability of the four mammalian GRIP domain proteins to interact. Using a combination of immunoprecipitation experiments of epitope-tagged GRIP domain proteins, crosslinking experiments and yeast two-hybrid interactions, we have established that the GRIP proteins can self-associate to form homodimers exclusively. Two-hybrid analysis indicated that the N-and C-terminal fragments of GCC88 can interact with themselves but not with each other, suggesting that the GRIP domain proteins form parallel coiled-coil dimers. Analysis of purified recombinant golgin-97 by CD spectroscopy indicated a 67 % αhelical structure, consistent with a high content of coiled-coil sequences. These results support a model for GRIP domain proteins as extended rod-like homodimeric molecules. The formation of homodimers, but not heterodimers, indicates that each of the four mammalian TGN golgins has the potential to function independently.

Attracting Customer in Saudi Arabia to Buy from Your Business Online

Adel Aboud Bahaddad, Luke Houghton, Steve Drew
2013 International Journal of Business and Management
This paper reports on an exploration of the factors that attract consumers to buy online in Saudi Arabia. Few companies in that country have enabled business sites, but most of them are keen to present product information on their sites rather than have an online sales process. According to the latest report was issued in 2010 from the Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) in Saudi Arabia, there are only 8% of businesses have online purchase channel; in contrast 54% of

This will assist the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) sector, which represents 90% of companies in Saudi Arabia, to increase communication channels with its customers electronically. A quantitative survey was conducted on a random sample of 381 consumer participants from Saudi Arabia who were interested to buy online to see what factors would attract them to online shopping. Several factors emerged as attracting factors which were divided into organizational, technical, and cultural factors.
